xtramath.org is a website we will be using to have students practicing their math facts. The program keeps track of students' mastered skills and trouble areas and caters its problems to match each students' needs. When students log on for the first time they take a pre-test and then that test decides where they start them off. I sent home flyers for you to create a student account at home. In this way your students can practice at school and home! Please contact me for any additional information!

Each of your students have been given a composition notebook that they were asked to decorate as their "Memory Journals." Memory Journals are due to me every Monday. Students are to write me a letter about one memory they have from the previous week. It could be at home or at school. In the past, the majority of parents and students have opted to complete this over the weekend as a weekly weekend writing assignment, however, I aim to have every students' journal back to them by Wednesday/Thursday so that they could complete it during the week if that is preferable. These journals give me a great insight into students lives outside school and also create a great memento of fourth grade memories to reflect on in years to come! I encourage pictures and all sorts of additions to their journal entries!
This year we are using a Word Study program from Zaner-Bloser. The spelling books will appear similar to those you may have seen in the past, however, there is now a heavy emphasis to studying the words meanings and patterns rather than just memorizing the spelling of them.
The spelling workbook itself is the basis of our "word study" program where we practice with one principle a week. However, all students have varying levels of listed words they are accountable on their spelling tests based on their pre-test performance. This way we can challenge everyone's spelling levels and still have the entire class participate in the word study program with the same principle. Please refer to your students agenda for their weekly list of spelling words they need to be studying for Friday's test. |
