Hello all!
I cannot believe how quickly September has passed us by! Our year is well underway and there is a lot of hard work happening in Room 1. Homework routines have been established. Check in with your students about their Math homework and Word Study homework. Please always check-in on the Homework tab of my website to stay aware of assignments!
LAST CALL to PLEASE sign our Parent Information Share for the room parents! They are still in need of a few contacts!
Wondering what 5th grade students in Massachusetts will be doing daily?
Check out this state document that was published for grade 5!
We've been using so many different materials, videos, and interactive programs to help us understand Earth's movements and the cardinal directions!
SOCIAL STUDIESWe have begun to study and explore the Mayan culture. We are focusing on their religion, government, and social structure. Students are working on creating masks like the ancient civilizations did. WRITING WORKSHOPWe have compared Walt Whitman's "I Hear America Singing" to the duet by Sinatra and Diamond, "The House I Live In." We then created our own poem called "I Hear Medfield Singing." We have also explored some creative writing prompts. | SCIENCEWe started the year learning about past scientists and what makes someone a scientist. Ask your student which scientist they researched! We are moving into our first Science unit about the relationships between the Earth and the Sun! Ask your students about what you can know just by looking at your shadow! READING WORKSHOP We have been getting used to our classroom library and focusing on making good book choices and discussing books! |
MATH
We had a great time visiting the library with Mrs. Cowell!
We are looking forward to all the books we will read this year!
We have been having a BLAST getting to know each other! It's going to be a GREAT year!
I want to conclude with a note about classroom behavior......
Sincerely,
Marissa Foley
